In February 2014, Tom Allen and I set off into the snowy Zagros mountains in Southwestern Iran. For the next 5 weeks we followed the river Karun from its humble, trickling origins in the mountains all the way to its terminus in the Persian Gulf, by which stage it had become an international waterway and nearly a kilometre wide.
We travelled first on foot, then by packraft. A change of plan led us to acquiring some bicycles for the third leg, and we finished the trip through a mixture of walking and jogging our way to the Gulf. In amongst the usual expedition blend of mayhem, madness and misery on this quest, I also had the time of my life.
Below is the trailer, and a slideshow with some images of the journey. To watch the film, visit www.karunfilm.com
